Fire exchanged on Israel-Lebanon border

Israeli military say two rockets from Lebanon hit this field near Kyriat Shmona in northern Israel.

No casualties or damage were reported.

(SOUNDBITE) (Hebrew) BENNY BEN MUVHAR, HEAD OF HERMON REGION LOCAL COUNCIL, SAYING:

"There were rocket hits which we were not prepared for. The sappers of Kiryat Shmona police identified the hits near the town, which have allowed us to get back to normal routine of life and send kids back to school."

Israeli military says it has shelled Lebanon in response targeting the area where the rockets were launched.

Witnesses say 33 Israeli shells hit two southern border towns.

Here in Marjayoun in south west Lebanon security forces examine what appears to be a failed rocket.

Officials say this could be the isolated work of one person.

Border tensions increased two weeks ago when Israel shot two Lebanese troops after an Israeli soldier was killed.
