Crisis inspires a surge of creativity in Greek art

In a theatre in Athens a lone dancer thrashes around the stage in a display of agile anguish.

It is one performer’s artistic response to the crisis that has brought her country to its knees.

The auditorium is packed and afterwards the theatre-goers speak of how much they appreciated and related to the core message.

All over Greece dancers, musicians, photographers and other artists have been making their own contributions to a new cultural wave sweeping across the country. In this edition of Reporter Hans von der Brelie meets some of those in the vanguard of this new artistic movement and finds out how art is blooming in an economic wasteland.
