India reinstates law banning gay sex

India’s Supreme Court has ruled that a colonial-era law criminalising homosexuality which was abolished in 2009 will be reinstated.

Supporters of gay rights in the country said they were angry and sad but would continue the fight for equal rights.

The Supreme Court said that the 2009 High Court decision was unconstitutional, and that it was for politicians and not courts to decide on the matter.
