Most prisoners hatch crazy escape plans to be free from their confines and gain freedom. But one inmate’s successful plot was for an entirely different reason.

The 51-year-old man, who had been behind bars at a minimal security facility in south-western Sweden, snuck out of the building to visit a dentist for a troublesome tooth.

According to the prisoner, he had asked jail staffers for medical help repeatedly, but he constantly got shut down. Eventually he decided to handle things himself.

After walking away from the property, he reportedly found the closest dental office and had one tooth, which was inflamed, removed. The man described his purpose for leaving, simply stating “My whole face was swollen. I just couldn't stand it any more.”

When the procedure was completed, the inmate contacted police and reported himself, proving his only intention in leaving the facility was to receive dental care. Officers gave him a ride back to the prison.

Guards quickly reprimanded him and gave him a slap on the wrist for punishment. His original sentence for 30 days, but after the escape stunt, it was extended an additional 24 hours.
