Delicate rescue operation after Glasgow helicopter crash

Police say it is too early to speculate on what caused a helicopter to crash into a Glasgow city centre pub on Friday night. It was packed with
revellers watching a band perform.
The building is unsafe which means rescuers
must proceed with care as they try to save lives.
“There is a methodical search now,” said Lewis Ramsay, Assistant Chief Fire Officer with the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service. “It is a methodical search and a methodical rescue operation. What we don’t want to do is worsen the environment for casualties that are in the building and for the rescuers that are there.”
Senior opposition Labour MP Jim Murphy told how he was in the area and ran into the pub to help.
“I am quite big and quite tall and I thought the best thing I could do is try to lift people so there was a kind of human chain – people further in the pub than me trying to grab people out,” said Murphy, the Shadow International Development
Minister.
“We don’t know what is happening,” said an elderly bystander. “We are as wise as yourself so we haven’t a clue. But it is terrible, it is terrible.”
With the number of casualties from this tragedy still unclear, British Prime Minister David Cameron has said his thoughts are with everyone affected by the crash.
