Ueno Metropolitan Police Department arrested Siou-Lan Lin, a 36-year-old Chinese suspect last Saturday as she stands accused of ATM cash theft. She took her intoxicated client to a convenience store ATM and withdrew his money with his ATM card without his permission.

The suspect is charged with ATM cash theft of an office worker in his 40s early on July 5th, as she withdrew 0.4 million Yen with his ATM card from a cashpoint at the convenience store in Yushima, Bunkyo ward, Tokyo. The suspect denied the accusation.

According to the police, some hostesses got the victim hammered at their restaurants in downtown Ueno and later took them to cashpoints. After victims entered their passwords, one hostess would kiss the victims to keep them distracted while another hostess took money away.

Police are treating the case as a group theft, looking into a string of similar cases to figure out whether they are committed by the same offenders. Over 600 cases have occurred in the the past two years, with over 220 million Yen stolen.
