Jolie gets honorary Oscar, Mirren earns Evening Standard award

It was a star studded weekend in Hollywood as the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences presented their honorary Oscars. Among this year's recipients were Angelina Jolie, who got the humanitarian award, and Angela Lansbury and Steve Martin who were honored for their contributions to film.

Helen Mirren was named best actress at London's Evening Standard Theatre Awards for her portrayal of Queen Elizabeth II in "The Audience." Mirren - who also won an Oscar for her portrayal of Elizabeth in "The Queen" - told reporters that she felt such awards honored the queen as much as her.

Superhero sequel "Thor: The Dark World" hammered out another victory in its second weekend at the North American box office. The movie hauled in 38.4 million in ticket sales, bringing its worldwide total to more than 479 million dollars. "Thor" had some stiff competition, however.
