Deadly tornadoes rip through US Midwest

A fast-moving storm system has triggered multiple tornadoes in America’s Midwest.

At least five people have been killed and scores injured as the winds tore across large parts of Washington, Illinois, Indiana and Kentucky.

Hundreds of homes have been flattened and whole neighbourhoods devastated.

The National Weather Services’ Storm Prediction Center said the storm system had moved dangerously fast, tracking eastward at 97 kph.

Forecasters say up to 53 million people may have been affected.

It is unusual to have such destructive storms at this time of year with November normally a quite month in the Tornado calendar.
