Dogs offer comfort and loyalty to humans and sometimes a long standing bond doesn’t have to be there for those qualities to be shown.

A woman in Lakeland, Florida in counting her lucky stars that she decided to adopt a canine from her local SPCA chapter.

Flames recently broke out in Sara Pelchat’s kitchen. She was fast asleep during the fire, completely unaware of what was going on – that is until her newly brought home dog, Brinleigh, frantically pounced on her and licked Pelchat’s face, alerting her that something was terribly wrong.

Pelchat initially didn’t think much of the dog’s attempts but Brinleigh became more panicked and slightly aggressive, tugging on her new owner’s shirt and pawing at her. Those efforts did the trick and Pelchat finally awoke to realize her home was filling up with black smoke.

As an odd twist, all of Pelchat’s other pets, aside from Brinleigh, ran out the house through the doggy dog when the fire broke out.
Thanks to that dog, the damages to the house were minimal.
