Typhoon survivors desperate to evacuate

Residents scrambled to get on a military flight on Thursday (November 14) as desperation grows almost a week after a powerful typhoon flattened Tacloban city in central Philippines.

There were emotional scenes at the heavily-damaged airport where men, women and children were turned away from boarding a C-130 plane.

Priority for these flights are given to the injured, the sick and the elderly.

The sheer scale of devastation is a huge challenge for aid agencies.

More the 544,600 people have been displaced by the storm and nearly 12 percent of the population directly affected, the United Nations said. Many areas still have no received aid.
