McDonald's May Consider 3D Printing Toys on Demand

Hoping to stop the ruckus unliked Happy Meal toys can cause, a McDonalds IT director is throwing around the possibility of putting 3D printers in its restaurants.
Hoping to stop the ruckus disliked Happy Meal toys can cause, a McDonalds IT director, Mark Fabes, is throwing around the possibility of putting 3D printers in its restaurants.
That way, if a kid ends up with a My Little Pony when what they really wanted was a Transformer, staff can just whip one up as easily as they can make a burger, no mustard, easy onions.
Don’t go rushing out to get a 3D-printed toy surprise just yet, though.
It’s not even in the testing phases. In fact, it hasn’t even been put up for consideration by the company at large.
There are quite a few details that need to be hammered out first.
Primarily the cost and who would supply the printers. It’s a very cool technology that’s come a long way, but it’s far from mainstream.
Fabes acknowledged that finding a supplier could be challenging, as providing machines for all their stores would require a technology giant.
As of yet, there aren’t too many of those in the 3D printing universe.
Also, he said he’s not even sure if it’s safe to smelt plastic around food.
