A bushfire at Kemps Creek, west of Sydney was brought under control by firefighters on Friday (November 8) after it had earlier threatened homes and residents.

The fire has burned about 250 hectares of land and additional firefighters had been sent to the area to contain the blaze. Local media reported that a busy motorway in the area suffered from low visibility due to smoke coming from the fire.

On Bribie Island north of Brisbane in Queensland, firefighters started to gain control of another fire that has burnt about 1000 hectares of land.

Two helicopters and 16 fire crews fought the fire, and no homes were threatened, local media reported.
