The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department is now investigating the death of a man who somehow caught on fire on Thursday at the West Hollywood Carnaval and later died from his injuries, officials said.

51-year-old Gilbert Estrada was taken to the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center on Thursday and pronounced dead on Friday morning, according to Lt. Cheryl MacWillie of the Los Angeles County coroner's office. Estrada was fully engulfed in flames in front of an event stage on Santa Monica and Le Cienega boulevards.

The sheriff's homicide division is looking into Estrada's death, said Deputy Irys Alvarez. Deputy Alvarez said it is still unclear if the incident was an accident or a crime.

A video of the horrific incident was put up on YouTube and it shows Estrada engulfed in flames next to a large crowd that is standing near a performance stage that is playing music. In the video, someone can be heard saying, "He's on fire!" Some people rushed to help put the flames out. Estrada's pants appear to have caught on fire in the clip.

After the flames are put out, several people in the crowd can be heard heckling the man, asking what he was doing, as he lies shirtless on the ground. The crowd then begins to shout and dance again around the man, who still is lying on the ground motionless.

The police are asking for the public's help in finding out what the source of the ignition was or how the Estrada caught fire.
