Interstate 5 bridge collapse in Washington state possibly caused by over-height truck

At least three people were injured when a bridge on Interstate 5 in Washington state collapsed into the Skagit River at around 7:00 p.m. Thursday evening.
The bridge connects the towns of Mount Vernon and Burlington and is the main corridor for vehicular traffic between Seattle and Vancouver, Canada.
According to KiroTV, a white semi-truck is believed to be the cause of the accident. The truck was carrying on its flatbed a square blue container estimated to be a foot or two wider than a typical semi-truck, and was a little bit taller.
State Department of Transportation spokesman Travis Phelps told KIRO 7 that something a little bit too tall and a little bit too wide potentially grazed some of the critical structure supports, which caused the bridge to collapse.
Investigators measured the truck before 10:00 p.m. trying to determine its dimensions.
The incident happened at about 7:00 p.m. local time.
According to the Seattle Times, at least two vehicles fell into the water during the accident.
All three people in the vehicles were rescued and taken to hospital for minor injuries.
According to the Seattle Times, "The bridge is classified as 'fracture critical,' meaning it lacks redundancy and one big structural failure could bring the whole thing down.
