Krokodil: Flesh-eating 'zombie' drug makes its way to America

Krokodil, a flesh-eating 'zombie' drug, whose symptoms sound like something out of a horror movie, has been making inroads into the US, according to a report by CNN.

It may sound like any addict's wet dream: A drug that can deliver a heroin-like high for as low as a tenth the cost and is easy make at home.

If it sounds too good to be true, it is.

Desomorphine, better known as krokodil, comes with a far steeper, hidden cost.

The drug, eats away at flesh, leaving users with scaly, crocodile-like skin and gangrenous limbs.

"It's a zombie drug -- it literally kills you from the inside out," said Dr. Abhin Singla, who treated an Illinois woman suffering from krokodil addiction this weekend. "If you want way to die, this is a way to die."

The moonshine drug is a toxic cocktail that mixes in substances like gasoline and lighter fluid.

Initially popularized in Russia, it has been spreading across the US, with cases surfacing in Utah, Arizona and Illinois.
