Sindh Governor Dr Ishrat-ul Ebad inaugurated helpline ‘Rescue 1299’ at the Karachi commissioner office.

The governor told the media that rescue 1299 would work as a “centralised coordination service” for rescue operations in the city in emergencies, as various organisations related to relief and rescue have been working in the metropolis without proper coordination among them.

It would fulfil the requirement of coordination and provide a chain of command for better rescue services, he added.

He said that the centre has complete data about the other organisations working in the field and it would provide logistic support in case of any major incident or disaster with quick response.

He said initially Rs33.150 million had been provided from the Governor’s Discretionary Fund for setting up of the centre while permanent funding to run the centre would be ensured by the commissioner’s office.

The governor said that three to five minutes had been set for response to any complaint received at the centre.

He said that over 40 federal, provincial and private organisations would work under the “Rescue 1299” for coordinated relief and rescue activities as and when required.

The centre having the latest communication facilities would work round-the-clock to ensure quick response in case of any emergency, he said.
