Seven amusement park patrons narrowly escaped drowning after a log chute ride flipped over, trapping them temporarily under water. The accident took place on Friday at the Cedar Point amusement park in Sandusky, Ohio.

According to eyewitness reports, the log chute carriage with seven park patrons aboard was about to crest the ride's first hill. But the chute began descending backwards down the incline, flipping over and plunging its occupants into the water. The occupants were trapped temporarily under water.

Park guests and staff reacted quickly to turn the log chute right side up. Were it not for their quick thinking, the accident could have been far more serious.

One victim was reportedly taken to hospital while others were treated at the park.

According to media reports, the accident was being investigated by Cedar Point officials, who said they had reported it to state officials. They said the ride, which opened in 2010, will stay closed until park and state inspectors complete their review.

In another amusement park accident on Friday, a woman riding a roller coaster at Six Flags amusement park in Arlington, Texas, died, and witnesses say she fell from a ride that is billed as the tallest steel-hybrid roller coaster in the world. The Texas Giant reaches 14 stories high and has a drop of 79 degrees and a bank of 95 degrees.
