As Francois Englert paces inside his Belgian home, he can tell he's being watched.

Outside the press is waiting, hoping for a clean shot and soundbite.

Englert gives in.

"I am not sad. I am not sad. This is good. It has been a while."

The good he's referring to comes from joining an elite club: winners of the Nobel Prize for physics.

He and fellow scientist Peter Higgs earned the award for predicting the existence of the Higgs boson.

"The theoretical mechanism that Englert and Higgs proposed and which led to this Higgs particle explains why fundamental particles have mass and we all know that mass is an important property - we feel it daily."

At a press conference back in Belgium, Englert said the partic
