Obama urges Republicans to raise debt ceiling

The stalemate between the President and Republican opposition in the House of Representatives continues. President Obama says he's willing to talk to Republicans, but calls upon legislators to raise the debt limit - without conditions.
"My suggestion to the Speaker has been and will continue to be - let's stop the excuses, let's take a vote in the House, let's end this shutdown right now. Let's put people back to work," Obama said at a White House news conference.
The president warned that a U.S. debt default could wreak havoc on the U.S. and world economies.
"According to many CEO's and economists, it would be, and I'm quoting here 'insane, catastrophic, chaos..." Obama said.
Republicans in the House have called upon the White House to negotiate the implementation of the Affordable Care act (also known as Obamacare), as a condition to spending bills. The impasse has led to a government shutdown.
