Man Pinned Under Farm Machinery Digs for Six Hours With Pocket Knife

54-year-old Barry Lynch became the victim of a horrible accident after a piece of heavy equipment, used for spraying crops, collapsed on his leg and pinned him to the ground. He pulled out a pocket knife and dug through the hard soil for 6 hours, to free his leg.

The grandfather and farm worker from Tully, Australia, became the victim of a horrible accident. While working, a piece of heavy, crop-spraying equipment fell on his leg and pinned him to the ground.
No one was around to hear his cries for help, so Lynch wriggled underneath the 9 ton piece of machinery and worked to remove his boot. Lynch knew no one would start looking for him until about 7 at night, so he pulled out a pocket knife and started digging through the hard soil, to free his swelling and endangered leg.
He dug with that tiny knife for over six hours. Lynch described the condition of his leg stating “It was just getting bigger and bigger and blacker and blacker until I could feel my skin cracking.”
He was able to move aside enough soil to free his leg and managed to crawl to his cell phone to call for help.
Amazingly, his leg was not amputated and he is now recovering in the hospital.
