Tom Hanks premieres his latest film "Captain Phillips"

Veteran actor Tom Hanks stars in the title role of "Captain Phillips", a movie about the five-day hijack of U.S. container ship Maersk Alabama by four Somali pirates.

Hanks attended the world premiere in New York, and said the fact that it's based on real life events made it possible to give it an extra human dimension.

SOUNDBITE: Tom Hanks, Actor, saying (English)

"The consequences of those four guys' decision to climb up on board and not finding what they thought they were going to find put Richard Phillips in a very, very tight position. And was sort of aided by the fact that everybody knows how it ends, because that means we were able to concentrate on the small little details, the human behavior."

One such detail is the interaction between Hanks and newcomer Barkhad Abdi, who plays the role of pirate captain, Muse.

Abdi, a Somali-American with no prior film experience, only met Hanks for the first time during the filming of this scene.
