What costs account for that cup of coffee you just ordered?

The more expensive part of a cup of coffee from major chain cafes in the United Kingdom is the cup and packaging, not the coffee itself.
An analysis from Allegra Strategies broke down the costs of each part that makes up a medium size cappuccino coffee order.

Based on a coffee that costs the equivalent of around three dollars and fifty cents, the coffee beans cost an estimated 13 cents, while costs for the cup, plastic lid, a paper napkin, sugar and a stirrer add up to around 26 cents.

Taxes on the cappuccino were about 59 cents, and the amount paid to the barista who made the coffee comes out to around 25 percent of the cost of the drink.

Another estimated 15 percent of the price of each drink sold goes towards paying rent for the business location, an average 15 percent pays for the administration, and leaving roughly 13 percent in profit.

Results of the study also show that the price of a medium cappuccino has risen significantly over the past decade.
