Two-Headed Calf Born in Oregon

A calf was recently born in Oregon and the animal had two heads, one neck, two ears and an extra set of eyes.

Occurrences of unusual birth defects in animals are certainly rare.

Recently, a calf with one of those unique features was born in Oregon.

The animal had two heads. It contained one neck, two ears and an extra set of eyes. Heidi Kirschbaum received a phone call from her sister-in-law alerting her about the rare calf which was born on the family farm in Jamieson.

Sadly, the calf died shortly after birth, but the baby’s mother is said to be doing fine.

Kirschbaum says she will mostly likely donate the head to veterinary medicine for study purposes. The family specializes in growing mostly hay, corn and sugar beets. They also have a few beef cows, but the two-headed birth is the first of its kind on the property.

Kirschbaum stated “We know it doesn't happen very often, but it happened to us.” According to a local veterinarian, that type of deformity is extremely rare, and when it does occur, it’s usually from a set of twins that formed together.
