Although there is no way to prove how old he is, Dhaqabo Ebba has impressed reporters with his knowledge of local history, and he claims to have lived and raised a family during the invasion of Ethiopia by Italian forces in 1895. (1,2,1)

An Ethiopian reporter interviewed Ebba on Oromiya TV, in his native language of Afan Oromo, and the account of his life was remarkable because of the man’s estimated age based on his recollections.

He is the oldest known person in his area (2,6,2) but no one can confirm his story.

Ebba is quoted as saying: “Not even one of my peers is alive today.”

He is estimated to have been born in the 1850s, (2,10,1) which would make him around 160 years old.

According to Guinness World Records, the oldest person in the world with a verifiable age was 122 year old Jeanne Calment, a French woman, who passed away in 1997.
