A UK man has turned annoying telemarketing calls into personal profit by installing a higher rate phone line.

Incoming callers are charged around 15 cents a minute, 70 percent of which he gets to bank. The line itself cost him 20 dollars to set up.

He says he’s raked in approximately 480 dollars since setting up the line in the fall of 2011.

The number of unsolicited sales calls he receives has dropped significantly, falling from about 30 a month to a little over 10.

Now, he welcomes them, though, and wishes he got more of them.

Among the ones he does receive he’s often asked why he has the weird number. After getting an explanation, many companies opt to continue to use it.

He did admit he tries to keep all callers who contact him on that line talking as long as possible.

The regulators don’t recommend that you do this at home, as the results can be risky.

For example, failing to inform callers that they’re being charged a premium rate can result in fines.
