U.S. must respond to chemical attack in Syria, White House press secretary says.

It's video that has turned the world's attention to Syria. These images said to have been taken last week after a suspected chemical weapons attack that killed nearly 500 civilians. U.S. officials say evidence points to the Syrian government being behind the attack.

(SOUNDBITE) (English) WHITE HOUSE PRESS SECRETARY JAY CARNEY, SAYING:

"The violation is undeniable. It is our firm conviction that the Assad regime is responsible."

In a briefing on Tuesday, White House Press Secretary Jay Carney says the U.S. has no option but to respond.

"There must be a response. We cannot allow this kind of violation of an international norm with the grave consequences it represents to go unanswered."

The Administration says it does not plan to send U.S. troops to Syria, but the President is weighing all of his options.
