National Zoo's giant panda gives birth

The giant panda at the Smithsonian's National Zoo gave birth to a panda cub at 5:32 pm edt on Friday (August 23).
Panda fans watched Mei Xiang as she was in labor via the Zoo's Panda Cam, a live video stream from the panda's habitat.
According to the Zoo's website, the panda team heard the cub and caught a quick glimpse of the new addition.
Her mother then picked up her baby and cradled it.
