STORY: Pyongyang residents and demonstrators gathered in the North Korean capital on Wednesday for a peace march, ahead of the 60th anniversary marking the end of the Korean War.

In video provided by North Korea's state news agency KCNA, that could not be verified by Reuters, demonstrators gathered and marched down roads holding banners, one calling for a peace treaty between the isolated state and the United States.

The North threatened South Korea and the United States with a nuclear war for weeks in response to toughened U.N. sanctions imposed after the test, but has since been more conciliatory.

Mass games and other festivities marking the end of the 1950-53 Korean war are a major occasion in North Korea, drawing tourists, diplomats and even foreign journalists, who are normally banned.

The two Koreas remain technically at war under an armistice signed on July 27, 1953, that ended their 1950-53 conflict.
