This is journalist Anna Politkovskaya, killed almost seven years ago in Moscow.

A reporter for the Novaya Gazeta Newspaper, the 58 year old was shot several times in the head, chest and shoulder at point blank range in her own apartment building.

On Wednesday, a Moscow court began the trial of five men accused of her murder.

But Politkovskaya's family have already criticised the case.

Her children released a statement saying they would not participate after the court refused to postpone until next week when they could take part.

And a spokesman for the Novaya Gazeta said authorities were trying to time the trial to coincide with the anniversary of Politkovskaya's death.

She said it was not right in terms of the law and in terms of fairness and conscience.

Politkovskaya was killed on October 7th 2006.

At the time of her death she had been investigating human rights abuses in Chechnya and high-level corruption across Russia.
