A woman had been paying for her grocery items at the checkout counter when she was struck by lightning.

During a thunderstorm, it can be easy to forget how dangerous lightning can be.

One woman in Louisiana received a horrible surprise while grocery shopping.

The female was at the checkout counter when she was struck by lightning. According to police, “officers noticed the victim received injuries to her left leg and right foot which appeared to be burn marks.”

33-year-old Lakeisha Brooks is the woman in question.

It is believed lightning struck the roof of the building and hit a metal plate on the inside of the store. A one-foot wide section of the tile floor was left blackened after the incident.

Brooks initially saw the flash and heard a loud sound. She immediately pushed the shopping cart away from her in an effort to protect her 2-year-old child.

Brooks felt another, second force hit her body. She was actually struck twice by the lightning. Thankfully, her toddler was uninjured.

She was taken to a nearby hospital and later released.
