Saudi Princess Goes to Court for Human Trafficking Charges

A Saudi Arabian princess appeared in an Orange County court and offered no plea on charges of human trafficking.
A Saudi Arabian princess appeared in an Orange County court and offered no plea on a charge of human trafficking.
Upon the payment of her 5 million dollar bail she was released, but outfitted with a GPS monitor and instructed not to leave the area. Her two passports were also handed over to the court.
The incident came to the attention of authorities when one of her servants, a woman from Kenya, fled from the princess’ Irvine house and hailed a bus. Noticing she seemed troubled, another passenger phoned 911.
She told police that she’d been tricked by the Saudi princess, who offered to pay her 16 hundred dollars a month for working a 40 hour week as a maid.
Instead, the woman was worked 16 hours a day, seven days a week, and paid 220 dollars weekly. Her travel documents were confiscated and her contract destroyed.
Even though officials in Saudi Arabia specifically advise against wealthy Saudis traveling to the US or Europe with their help in tow, the princess brought along part of her staff.
It’s unclear why the victim fled when she did, but noted that she was holding onto a US Embassy brochure about reporting situations such as her own.
