Handwritten Bowie lyrics and Jagger's hair up for auction

A set of David Bowie's handwritten lyrics is to be auctioned in London on July 3.

The lyrics to his track 'The Jean Genie'', signed and dated 1972 by Bowie, appeared one year later on the album Aladdin Sane, Bowie's first No.1 album.

There's been renewed interest in the star thanks to an ongoing exhibition at London's V&A Museum, says Stephen Maycock from Bonhams auction house.

SOUNDBITE: Stephen Maycock, Bonhams' entertainment items specialist, saying (English):

"David Bowie material has been fairly scarce in the auction market in the last few years, but we have noticed with the exhibition and David's raised profile more material has come onto the market recently, so it's a very good time for something like the lyrics of one of David's most iconic songs to be offered for sale."

Also going on sale is a lock of Mick Jagger's hair, which was kept by the family of his girlfriend when he was a student during the 1960s, before he found international fame.
