France urges moderate rebels to get upper hand on jihadis

A massive explosion at an airport in Aleppo as rebel forces seek to reverse gains made by forces loyal to President Bashar al-Assad.

The video, which could not be independently verified by Reuters comes after Western and Arab countries known as the "Friends of Syria" agreed Saturday to give urgent military support to the rebels.

French President Francois Hollande is now urging moderate rebels to wrest territory back from radical Islamists.

(SOUNDBITE) (French) FRENCH PRESIDENT, FRANCOIS HOLLANDE, SAYING:

"They must take back control of these regions that have fallen in extremists' hands. The opposition must take back control of these regions -- and of these groups to move them away."

In Damascus the battle for control is going house to house.

The sound of gunfire is relentless.

Everyone is fighting for their life.

At least 93,000 people have already died in the conflict -- and so far there is little let up in the fight.
