If you live in Tamil Nadu, India and you’re thinking about going out tonight, you should be advised that hooking up with someone could also render you married to them.

Recently their high court ruled that unwed couples of a certain age who sleep together are, in the eyes of the law, legally joined in matrimony.

It was said, “If any couple choose to consummate their sexual cravings, then that act becomes a total commitment with adherence to all consequences that may follow, except on certain exceptional considerations.”

Also noted was that ceremonies and rituals were for social satisfaction only and not deemed necessary to cement a legal bond. Unwed couples that are sleeping together need only provide proof of that to become legally legit.

The decision left many confused, and a lot of people couldn’t decide if the ruling was progressive or archaic.

Also on the public’s mind was what that meant for them. Among the biggest questions are if it provides full marital benefits for the unmarried, or if it just boils down to bearing more legal responsibilities
