Gulf of Guinea: Lack of resources to counter piracy

Al Qarra - In the port of Abidjan, a maritime surveillance brigade set out in wooden pirogue. Without arms, and equipped only with their mobile phones to communicate, the burden is high.

Their mission is to hold the front line against piracy in piracy’s new hot spot in the Gulf of Guinea.

Until recently, Ivory coast’s maratime survillence brigade barely managed to control crime, and over the last few months, the country has witnesses numerous attacks carried out by Nigerian gangs.
