At least 11 reported dead in anti-militia clashes in Benghazi

Gunfire in Benghazi as clashes erupt between protesters and a Libyan militia.

At least 11 people were killed and dozens wounded.

The violence erupted as protesters demonstrated outside the headquarters of the Libya Shield brigade demanding the disbanding of militias.

Resentment against the militias, some of which have been licensed by the government has been growing.

Libya's new leaders are still struggling to impose their authority on a cross section of armed groups who often take the law into their own hands.
