Musicians and dancers have auditioned for a sought after role in Washington D.C. The winners will land a job as a subway performer.

Musicians and dancers have auditioned for a sought after role in Washington D.C. The winners will land a job as a subway performer.
A panel of five judges reviewed the talents of the aspiring entertainers. Although no winners have been announced yet, the judges will pick about 15 acts to showcase their abilities in front of lunchtime and evening crowds at selected metro stations and at the National mall from June through November.
Amazingly, the performers will not receive compensation or tips for their acts, but they will get a temporary spot in the limelight. The auditions are held annually as part of a program called MetroPerforms!
Up until recent times, the artists were paid for their work. An authority for the Metro's Art in Transit program stated “Many of the musicians in the area are very interested in performing at Metro stations simply because it has such a high volume of people coming and going.”
