Barbecuing Doctors Force Patient-Carrying Helicopter to Land Elsewhere

Helicopter pilots were attempting to land at a hospital while carrying a patient. Barbecuing doctors were standing too close to the helipad, forcing the pilots to redirect.
Being able to barbecue outside is usually considered a treat on a nice summer day. Well, it didn’t work out too well for doctors in Scotland.
An incident recently occurred at the Lorn and Islands District General Hospital. Apparently helicopter pilots were attempting to land at the facility while carrying a person requiring medical attention.
The crew then noticed a group of people outdoors, only about 50 feet from the helipad. They were declared a potential hazard. Pilots opted to redirect the flight to a nearby airport.
The people on the ground were actually a group of off-duty doctors who had decided to have an evening barbecue outside the hospital. The patient in question was transported to the medical establishment by a road ambulance once the helicopter successfully landed at the airport.
A hospital spokesperson stated “Any necessary steps will be taken to make sure this does not happen in the future. While this is very unfortunate it is not a disciplinary matter.”
