The amorous French, widely known for that particular style of kissing, have for centuries never had an official word for the sloppy kiss.

The term "French kiss" is said to have been brought to the English-speaking world
by soldiers returning from Europe after World War I, having apparently learned a thing or two from the more liberal French.

Given the famed sexual exploits of certain Frenchmen, the introduction seems somewhat belated.

"Galocher" was a long-used slang term, riffing on the idea of sliding around the ice.

The lexicographers behind the 2014 edition of the Petit Robert must've finally given up.
