At least six killed in Peshawar convoy attack

STORY: At least six policemen were killed and three others, including the District Police Officer, were injured when militants ambushed their vehicles on the Indus Highway near Peshawar in northwestern Pakistan late Friday night.

According to local media, DPO Dilawar Bangash was on his way from Peshawar to the town of Kohat along with his escort when militants armed with RPG rockets ambushed the convoy near a check post on the Indus Highway.

No one was willing to speak on record, but a police official, on condition of anonymity, told reporters the attack destroyed one vehicle completely killing four policemen on the spot and injuring three, including the DPO and his driver.

Some reports said the injured driver was able to drive the DPO away from the spot and reached Kohat where both the injured were taken to a military hospital.
