코로나19 어제 신규확진 79명…연이틀 급증•53일만에 최대

We begin tonight with the latest COVID-19 numbers in this country.
South Korea reported its biggest spike in new coronavirus cases in nearly two months... raising fears of a second wave of disease.
The KCDC announced nearly 80 new cases today most of which are in the Seoul metropolitan area and linked to a cluster infection at one of the country's largest e-commerce companies.
Our Choi Jeong-yoon is live at one of its logistics centers located in Bucheon - just west of Seoul.
Jeong-yoon, it's all the more worrisome because half of South Korea's 51 million population live here in the capital and the surrounding area?
You're right, Conn-young.
I am standing in front of one of Coupang's distribution centers in Bucheon, Gyeonggi-do Province,... a satellite city of Seoul about 25 kilometers away where the cluster infection started.
South Korea reported 79 new cases on Thursday, 72 of which were community-based transmissions.
This is the first time in 53 days that there were more than 70 newly confirmed cases in a single day.
As of Thursday, Gyeonggi-do Province has reported a total of 86 cases linked to the Bucheon logistics center, the first ones 5 days ago.
The health authorities say this outbreak could see several degrees of transmission... since there have already been secondary infections among the families and friends of employees.
So far, at least 19 people who were in close contact with the infected employees have contracted the virus.
To break link transmissions from spreading any further, the South Korean government today unveiled ways to enhance distancing measures for the next two weeks. Tell us about that.
This cluster infection comes as South Korea reopens its schools, which is causing concern, so the government has taken stronger quarantine measures.
It announced that public facilities like parks and museums will be closed for two weeks starting this Friday... in Seoul, Incheon and the surrounding province of Gyeonggi-do.
Also, entertainment facilities, like bars and clubs, are advised to close until June 14th,... and social distancing measures will be strengthened if the situation isn't brought under control in the next two weeks.
"In order to stop the virus from spreading in the metropolitan area, it's very important how we handle the next two weeks. If the outbreak continues to grow, we'll have no choice but to go back to strong social distancing."
The Gyeonggi-do provincial office has ordered a two-week shutdown of Coupang's logistics centers in Bucheon and Goyang, where an additional case was confirmed.
This the first time Gyeonggi-do has banned gatherings at private facilities.
Back to you, Conn-young.
Our Choi Jeong-yoon live from one of the now-shuttered warehouses in Bucheon. Thanks, Jeongyoon.
